The HMS Vanguard of 1878 (the fifth ship to bear this name) enjoyed a long and eventful career under several commanding officers, including Admiral Nelson. She played a key role in winning the Battle of the Nile against the French Fleet in 1798. Vanguard spent her waning years as a prison ship and powder hulk, and was dismantled in 1821. Amati's impressive master level kit replicates her 1798 appearance and employs double-plank-on-bulkhead construction, with extensive use of laser-cut wood parts. Brass detail sheets include photo-etched window frames, flintlock detail and monograms for the cannon, footrope stirrups and other fine yard and mast detail, deadeye strop/chainplate fittings, gunport scuttles, hinges and plenty more!
